Wander the Walking Trails

Whether you’re an adventure seeker or a history buff, the Tamworth region offers a variety of walking tracks that cater to all interests and fitness levels. Get ready to embark on a journey through the natural scenery and cityscape of the region, with walks at the Tamworth Mountain Bike Park, along the Kamilaroi Walking Track, the Manilla Bridge to Bridge walk and more! 

Kamilaroi Walking Track

Immerse yourself further in indigenous culture and heritage as you traverse the Kamilaroi Walking Track in Tamworth, originally having opened in 1936.

There are multiple trails to choose from, with the Flagstaff Mountain walk being a local favourite! The trails meander through diverse landscapes, including bushlands, scenic riverbanks and a number of lookout spots.

Along the way, you’ll encounter signs that provide insights into the local Aboriginal culture, history, and connection to the land, and you may even spot some local wildlife! The Kamilaroi Walking tracks range from easy, moderate and hard, with various lengths to choose from. You can also trail down to the Tamworth Marsupial Park and see the animals in the 14 hectare park!

Length: 400m – 5km (uneven surface, bush walking, up hill, some paths shared with the mountain bike trails)

Tamworth Mountain Bike Park Walking Trails

The Tamworth Mountain Bike Park, located within a convenient 10-minute drive from the Tamworth CBD, offers an idyllic retreat for outdoor enthusiasts. While known for its numerous exhilarating and kid-friendly bike trails, the park also offers excellent walking tracks that allow you to soak in the natural beauty of the region.

The trails wind through natural bushland and offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Along these trails you’ll also find signage detailing traditional Aboriginal practices.

Plus, the Yuundu Warruwl Cultural Trail is a purpose built pedestrian only trail! Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or looking for a new experience, the Tamworth Mountain Bike Park walking trails offer a memorable experience for all.

 

Make sure you take caution, as some of the trails do share paths with people Mountain Biking!

Country Music Walk and Public Art Trails

Whilst in the Tamworth CBD, you can also follow the Country Music Walk or the Public Art Trail. The Country Music Walk allows you to discover the rich folklore and culture of Australian country music on display at popular attractions in Australia’s Country Music Capital! It follows number 6-11 of places on the Country Music Trail 

The Public Art Trail brightens up the already vibrant Tamworth scenic palette and brings you captivating sculptures and artworks that celebrate the region’s artistic spirit. 

Here you can uncover a mix of thought-provoking works created by talented professionals and community artists.

Length: 2.8km (Country Music Trail) and 2.45km (Public Art Trail)

Peel River Walk

Whilst in the Tamworth CBD, you can also follow the Country Music Walk or the Public Art Trail. The Country Music Trail allows you to discover the rich folklore and culture of Australian country music on display at popular attractions in Australia’s Country Music Capital!

Bridge to Bridge Walk in Manilla

Just a short drive from Tamworth lies the village of Manilla, offering a relaxing walking experience with its Bridge to Bridge Walk. Spanning across the Namoi River, this trail connects the two bridges, creating a loop that takes approximately 2.5-3 hours to complete.

The walk starts from the Namoi River Bridge on Manilla Street (Fossickers Way), and directs you past the junction of the Namoi and Manila Rivers, to the Manilla Showground and the old Railway Bridge.

As you walk, you’ll be delighted by the tranquil river, parklands, and captivating birdlife. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the views from the bridges.

Heritage Walk

Uncover the fascinating history of Tamworth through the Heritage Walk. This self-guided walking trail takes you through the heart of the city, showcasing its colonial past and architectural gems.

As you make your way along, you’ll discover beautifully preserved heritage buildings and landmarks that showcase the story of Tamworth’s history.

There are over 20 stops marked out along this 2.5km route. Be sure to stop in at the Visitor Information Centre to get a map of this walk!

Length: Approximately 2.49km

Explore the many walking tracks and trails in our region, take in the local scenery, and learn a thing or two about the culture and history of our landscape.

For those seeking a change of scenery, the Bridge-to-Bridge Walk in Manilla offers an alternate route around the region. The best part of all of these walking tracks? Excluding the Marsupial Park, you can walk your dog on its leash as these are dog-friendly walking trails.
