PROGRAM

  • 6.00 pm – Social: Tea/Coffee/Biscuits Available
  • 7.00 pm – Presentation: by Dr Laura Driessen – “Radio astronomy and the hunt for radio stars”
    Background – “Dr Laura Driessen is a radio astronomer and Science and Technology Australia Superstar of STEM. Laura loves searching for hard-to-find things in the deluge of data we get from amazing radio telescopes, especially the telescopes right here in Australia.
    She’s passionate about sharing her science and the cool astronomy being done in Australia. Laura is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Sydney and Project Scientist of the Variables and Slow Transients (VAST) survey with ASKAP.”
  • 8.00 pm – Telescope Viewing: (weather cooperating..!!!)
    Whats in the Sky?? We’ll have various optical viewing Telescopes and the 34 in Hewitt Camera looking at Galaxies, Nebula, Clusters, Comets etc. Milky Way with lots of Globular Clusters. Sombrero, Sthrn Pin Wheel & Centaurus A Galaxies rising in the East. The Tarantula & Eta Carina Nebula are well positioned. Comet 12p/Pons-brooks is still visible in binoculars on the Western Horizon after sunset. Mag 5.8

(PS. Bring a jumper as clear nights can still be pretty cool……)
