Tamworth Regional Astronomy Club – Monthly Meeting, Presentation & Viewing Night

6.00 pm – Social: Tea/Coffee/Biscuits/Drinks Available. Tours & Minerals Group displays.

7.00 pm – Presentation: by Dr Madeleine McKenzie – Research into Globular Clusters (via Zoom)

Short Bio; 10 years after graduating high school, Madeleine has recently finished her PhD in astrophysics from the Australian National University with her thesis titled “Nucleosynthesis at the isotopic level: how chemical abundances enhance our understanding of globular clusters and dwarf galaxies”. She specializes in observations of star clusters and is primarily interested in understanding how they formed. At the end of the year, she will start as a NASA Hubble fellow at the Carnegie Observatories in Pasadena, California, which operates the 6.5 m Magellan telescopes located in Chile.

8.00pm – Telescope Viewing: (weather cooperating..!!!)

What’s in the Sky??
We’ll have various optical viewing Telescopes and the 34 in Hewitt Camera looking at Galaxies, Nebula, Clusters, Comets etc. Milky Way with lots of Globular Clusters. The Milky Way is overhead with a multitude of Globular Clusters and the brilliant nebula like the Eagle & Trifid, Lagoon visible , with Eta Carina Nebula to the South. Sombrero, Sthrn Pin Wheel & Centaurus A Galaxies heading down to the West. Saturn rises in the East. (PS. Bring a coat & beanie as clear nights can be pretty cool……)

Bring Your Own Gear Too; Feel free to bring your own camera, binoculars or telescope for some tips and viewing. Come along and make it a great monthly event night….!!!
