Join the celebration of Tamworth as the ‘First City of Light’ on Thursday the 9th of November for the 135th anniversary of the turning on of the first electric streetlights. On the 9th of November 1888 Tamworth became the first city in the southern hemisphere to have municipally funded electric streetlights. Join us at the Museum as we celebrate this event through a tour of the Museum and the running of our John Fowler under type steam engines (dating back to 1886).
