As part of the Centenary of Legacy Celebrations here in Tamworth that surround the arrival of the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay, we are having an official ceremony to conclude the installation of 1000 crosses around the Waler Memorial Pond in Bicentennial Park in honour of those who have served our nation.
The afternoon will include:
- The installation of crosses around the Waler Memorial Pond by Aborignal Elders, politicians and service personnel, and the opportunity for the public to lay red poppies in and around the crosses
- An honour guard provided by the 12/16th Hunter River Lancers, joined with Troopers from the Australian Light Horse Association and members of the 310 Squadron of the Airforce Cadets
- A parade of “Dilly Bag Lanterns” by school students
- A musical presentation by Brent Larkham
- Free BBQ provided by West Tamworth Rotary
