Join us as Dr David Beirman discusses risk, crisis, and disaster management to business owners and managers in the Tamworth region. Many businesses tend to get concerned about risk and crisis only when it is actually hitting them – David will address the most important element of risk management for private and government enterprises: being fully prepared. All businesses are potentially vulnerable to crisis events, some due to management, product and service failures and some due to external events such as natural disasters (fire, flood and drought) and man-made crises that arise from crime, economic shocks and political upheavals. Many businesses are still recovering from the impact of COVID-19, which is far from over. There will be ample time for questions and discussion.
David’s talk will also focus on his recently released book, co-edited with Cairns based Prof Bruce Prideaux, “Handbook on Crisis and Disaster Management in Tourism”. The book involved 25 chapters by 45 contributors from 12 countries, including some of the world’s leading tourism and business academics and some outstanding tourism industry professionals from Australia, Japan and the UK – including Rob Harding-Smith, Global Strategy Manager, Tourism Australia. David and Bruce wrote five of the 25 chapters.
Dr David Beirman is a Nundle local whose work in the field of tourism risk, crisis and recovery over the past 25 years has taken him to speak at conferences and engage in projects all over Australia and around the world. He is an adjunct fellow in Management at the University of Technology Sydney.
This book is David’s fifth book (with a sixth now in the works). His last book, “Tourism Crises and Destination Recovery” (2022) Sage Publications is in both the Tamworth and Nundle libraries.
