Travelling Film Festival (TFF), the regional tour of Sydney Film Festival, will return to Tamworth from 25—27 March 2022 at Forum 6 Cinemas. The program will showcase nine acclaimed feature films and two exceptional Australian short films, direct from last year’s Sydney Film Festival and other major international festivals.
This year’s TFF Tamworth Opening Night Film, BLIND AMBITION, winner of the Audience Award at the Sydney Film Festival 2021 and Tribeca Film Festival 2021, Australian directors-producers-writers Warwick Ross and Rob Coe work together again on a delightful wine-related documentary, following this determined foursome as they practice their tasting skills and set out for France to proudly represent Zimbabwe in the World Wine Blind Tasting Championships.
The 2022 Academy nominees in the program include Pedro Almodóvar’s PARALLEL MOTHERS, nominated for Best Actress (Penélope Cruz) and Original Score, is a gorgeous combination of visual and emotional elements; FLEE, nominated for Best International Feature, Best Documentary and Best Animation, is a powerful documentary fusing animation and archival material to tell the story of a gay Afghan refugee in Denmark who kept his painful past a secret for two decades.
DRIVE MY CAR, directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, winner of Best Foreign Language Film at multiple Critics’ Awards from around the world, is also competing for Best Picture, Best Director, Best International Feature and Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2022 Academy Awards. Based on Haruki Murakami’s short story, Hamaguchi x-rays these characters, each haunted by their past, as he incisively explores ideas of love, desire, infidelity, guilt and atonement.
Other highlights from the program also include ALI & AVA, set in multicultural Bradford, this fierce and tumultuous love story follows British-Pakistani landlord Ali (Adeel Akhtar, Enola Holmes, Four Lions) and Ava (a luminous Claire Rushbrook), an Irish-born teacher and single mother of five; The poignant award-winner and BAFTA nominee, LIMBO, about a promising young Syrian musician Omar is one of a group of refugees stuck on a remote Scottish island;
HERE OUT WEST, an opening night film for Sydney Film Festival in 2021, stories from eight talented Western Sydney writers intertwine poignantly through themes of family and place in a groundbreaking film that reframes the Australian experience.
PETITE MAMAN (2020) is dreamy, magical and intimate between intergenerational relationships. Director Céline Sciamma’s previous films, including her script for MY LIFE AS A ZUCCHINI (SFF 2017), have often focussed on pivotal childhood phases.
We are also proud to present two Australian short film finalists from last year’s Sydney Film Festival including Shiny One, funded by Screen Australia’s No Ordinary Black short film initiative; as well as We Have Me supported by the Screenability initiative, showcasing provocative cinema by filmmakers with disability.
