Split Rock Dam

Split Rock Dam is a wonderful destination for camping, fishing and water sports. There are picnic areas, wood barbecues, boat ramps and other amenities. Anglers report good catches of Murray cod, golden perch and silver perch at Split Rock, named after a fissure in a great rock near the dam.

Water sports include skiing, sailing and swimming. The main camping area is about a kilometre from the dam wall on the western foreshore and has powered and unpowered sites. A concrete boat ramp is near the main campground. There’s also a gravel ramp at Glen Riddle Reserve.

Anglers require a recreational fishing license. Split Rock Dam is about 70 minutes drive south of Barraba and 90 minutes northwest of Tamworth.

Bookings are made through the Tamworth Regional Council. This site is accessible by caravans in good weather.

The location is approximately 14 kilometres north of Manilla, take a right on Oakhampton Road. Follow the road for another 10 kilometres following the signs. An honesty box is at the gate (AUD2 a day / vehicle for day access)
