We all know and love the annual Tamworth Country Music Festival, but if you are looking for things to do that aren’t related to music, then look no further!

There’s plenty of stuff to do in the Tamworth region that has nothing to do with music.

Here’s just a sample!

Tamworth Powerstation Museum

1. Learn something new!
Did you know that Tamworth was the first city in Australia to be lit by municipal electric street lighting in 1888? It’s something that the region is a bit less famous for, but something that we’re just as proud of! Head over to the Powerstation Museum to learn all about the development of electricity and to view the world’s only two operational John Fowler steam-driven engines. They also have an incredible collection of electric appliances from throughout the 20th century.

'The Water Diviner' Barraba Silo Art

2. Barraba public art
Take a drive and admire The Water Diviner, an impressive mural at the southern town entrance on an incredible 40m high silo canvas. A second work has been recently completed on Alice Street by artist Jenny McCracken titled Beyond the Wall – an “illusory image of breaking through the constructs of civilisation to a wonderland of treasured memories and natural beauty” according to the artist. A third artwork, Bedtime Stories was added in 2022 too, these works are well worth the trip!

5. Go for a (train) ride
Head up to the Victoria Park Precinct between 10am and 3pm on the third Sunday of each month to go for a ride on the Tamworth Miniature Railway.   While you’re there, take the kids to the Marsupial Park where they can get up close with Australian animals including kangaroos, wallabies, cockatoos and emus), or they can tire themselves out at the Adventure Playground.

6. Fly Manilla Paragliding
Take yourself to new heights and experience paragliding at Australia’s only world class flying site – Mount Borah!
